Microsoft Office LTSC and Microsoft Office 2021 for Mac Preview

In the second half of 2021 Microsoft plans to release a one time purchase of Microsoft Office for Windows and Mac.  At this time Microsoft is calling the software Microsoft Office LTSC (long term servicing channel) for Windows and Microsoft Office 2021 for Mac.  These versions of Microsoft Office will be very similar to Microsoft Office 2019 for Windows and Mac.  It is expected that each Microsoft Office LTSC, Microsoft Office 2021 for Mac, Project 2021 and Visio 2021 will be supported for 5 years.

In today’s announcement Microsoft has stated that there will be at least one more release of Microsoft Office that is produced for a one time purchase. The software will be distributed in the same Click to Run format that was used for Microsoft Office 2019.  The Mac version will use a .pkg file for installation.

There will be some new features over Microsoft Office 2019 that are already found in Microsoft Office 365, the final new features have not been set at this time.  So far it will include accessibility features, Dynamic Arrays and XLOOKUP in Excel, dark mode support, visual improvements, new privacy controls, and performance improvements.  In both the Windows and Mac versions of the software it will include Microsoft Teams. Project 2021, Visio 2021 will also be a part of this preview and release of the software in the second half of 2021.

The Mac version will run on macOS 10.14 (Mojave), macOS 10.15 (Catalina), and macOS 11 (BigSur).  Windows will require Windows 10, or Windows Server 2019.  It will be available in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions.
