About Michael Spice

Michael Spice has over 35 years of experience in the fields of telecommunications and information technology.  He has taught Computer Science for 22 years as a college professor.

He has worked with TRS-80, Apple II series, DOS since 1.0, Novell Netware since 2.0, Windows since 1.0, OS/2, Linux since it was made available, FreeBSD, other commercial Unix variants like HPUX, AIX, and Mac since it was introduced.  As well as iOS and Android for phones and tablets.

He has a extensive background in networking topologies including the wiring: coax, twisted pair, fiber along with certifications for installation and testing.

He has worked with Cisco networking products since about 1990, and also works with other major brands like Dell, HP, and Juniper.

He has been working with the Internet since 1992 both in routing and in securing data transfers over the Internet.  Setting up FTP, SFTP, Gopher, IMAP, LDAP, POP3, SMTP, SSH, Telnet, Web services on a variety of platforms.

Has worked to route, tunnel and direct a variety of protocols such as LAT, Netbeui, DECnet, TCP/IP v4 and TCP/IP v6.  Also VLAN, VPN, Layer 3 Switching, QOS and other security related and performance related options.

In the late 1980’s he worked on repairing a wide variety of brands of computer equipment and continued to do so throughout his career.

Has worked for over 30 years with software licensing agreements for education, non-for-profit and commercial interests and knows how to find the proper coverage for your business at the best cost.

Have been working and managing a variety of email servers, Novell GroupWise, Microsoft Exchange, Sendmail, Q-Mail, Postfix along with SPAM (Unsolicited Commercial Email) tools to block and protect from Junk Mail and Viruses. He also provides Proofpoint Essentials for customers.

Works with Avaya, Cisco and NEC phone systems, along with the requirements of (QOS) Quality of Service in implementing (VoIP) Voice Over IP.  Familiar with options for POTS, T1 PRI and VoIP services for use in these systems, along with testing for each type of circuit.

Has installed network based security and monitoring systems for both computer equipment and building structure.

Has a good background to help organization determine if cloud based services are a good option, or safe for their use, and to help view the costs associated.

Has been working with virtualization on computer systems since 1998 like Virtual-PC, VirtualBox, Microsoft Hyper-V, Parallels, VMware ESX, Server, Desktop, and KVM.

Have developed scripts and applications in BASH, PERL, Python, PHP, Kixtart, Pascal, COBOL, C, C++, JAVA, Visual Basic, VBScript, JScript, C# and Assembly Language.
