Windows 10 and 11 Slow, Slow Shutdown, Issues with Updates
I have started to notice Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems that are slower than they usually are. They take much longer to shutdown, with complaints about waiting for tasks waiting to complete. If you check Settings, Windows Update, the update check never completes it just keeps scanning. Microsoft Store apps stall and do not complete. Windows Update shows error 0x800705b4. All of these are common issues found with this Windows Update problem.
If you notice these issues, a set of steps that seem to have helped with the systems is to go to Settings, Windows Update, Advanced options – for the option Receive updates for other Microsoft products turn that option Off. After you do that either wait for the system to check for Windows Updates, or choose Check for updates and allow system to complete its updates. After completing updates and rebooting, you can go back into Settings, Windows Update, Advanced options and turn the option Receive updates for other Microsoft products back on.
Hope this will help you out, starting noticing this issue in February, and especially with the Microsoft Security updates for March 2025. Have not noticed the problem return after completing these steps.
