Microsoft announced today on GitHub that they are working on a new version of Microsoft Edge that will be based on the open source Chromium browser engine.  Microsoft will contribute to the efforts in the development of Chromium browser.  The new version of Microsoft Edge will be available for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.  There is also a plan to develop the browser for macOS as well other ARM based platforms.
