Windows Search – Wasting Space
Windows Search is a database that is created to help you find files on your system. If that database becomes damaged it can grow very large and not only take space, slow the system down as it attempts to update the index, and may not provide good results when searching.
To check the space your Windows Search Database is taking issue the following PowerShell command. This must be done as a Administrator.
Get-Item "$env:ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Windows.db" -Force | Select-Object Name, @{n='MB';e={[math]::Round($_.Length/1MB,2)}}
If this file getting over 1GB in size it is something to watch, if you have a smaller file then your Windows Search database is performing well.
